New First 5 has reported that the Rev. Don Armstrong, former pastor of Grace Episcopal Church and St. Stephen’s Parish, will be back in court today “to find out whether he will have to pay restitution” to his former church. Armstrong, who is now pastor of St. George’s Anglican Church in Colorado Springs, has been accused of stealing more than $400,000 from his former church. The money was allegedly used to pay for his kid’s education. Although Armstrong maintains he his innocent, he submitted an “Alford plea to a misdemeanor theft count” and believes a jury would probably convict him. Prosecutors in the case have said they were seeking some $291,000 in restitution.
Charges of theft as well as any charges of stealing another person’s property are serious and require the experience of a qualified and reputable Colorado Criminal Defense Attorney. The right attorney can help make sure your case is handled fairly and that your rights are protected. In some cases, theft charges can escalate to criminal charges unfairly and a good attorney can help determine if your case should be tried as a civil case rather than a criminal one. In most situations, victims are willing to negotiate and a case can be resolved through restitution.
A skillful and knowledgeable Colorado Springs Criminal Defense Attorney can work with prosecutors to strike a favorable plea bargain to help you avoid unnecessary jail time.
