Monday, August 2nd, 2010

According to The Gazette, Colorado Springs Police have arrested 4 teens suspected of involvement “in a string of vehicle break-ins early Monday morning in east-central Colorado Springs.” Each of the teens, 3 juveniles and an 18-year-old, faces at least one “first degree criminal trespass” charge, which is considered a felony. Police were aided by a neighbor who witnessed a group of men breaking into a vehicle around 4 am. The crimes are still being investigated but it is believed that at least 3 cars were burglarized.

Charges of theft, including criminal trespass, as well as any other charge of stealing another person’s property require the experience of a qualified and reputable Criminal Defense Attorney. The right attorney can help make sure your case is handled fairly and that your rights are protected. In some cases, theft charges can escalate to criminal charges unfairly and a good attorney can help determine if your case should be tried as a civil case rather than a criminal one. In most situations, victims are willing to negotiate and a case can be resolved through restitution.

Juvenile Assualt Charges – Colorado Springs Juvenile Defense Attorney

Monday, March 29th, 2010

According to the Denver Post, a 35-year-old Colorado Springs woman was assaulted and robbed after being tricked into giving 3 teens a ride home. The post reported that at around 1:00 a.m. the teens approached the woman in a grocery store parking claiming to be stranded and needing a ride home. The woman took the teens to what she believed was their house, where she was led into a back yard, struck in the head twice, kicked to the ground, and her car stolen. The teenage suspects and her Honda were later spotted a mile away from the assault. The teenage suspects were arrested on aggravated robbery and assault charges. They were reported to be a boy age 17, a girl age 14 and another girl age 12.

Unfortunately the robbers took advantage of this woman’s willingness to help children in need – preying upon her willingness to look after the well-being of strangers.

According to Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) , aggravated assault is defined as an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. Although the number of aggravated assaults is declining, research shows that it still has the highest percentage of occurrences under the four types of violent crimes – murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OOJJDP) reports that the highest number of juvenile arrests were for theft, however the number of juvenile violent crimes is on the rise.

The increase of juvenile violent crimes is alarming. And it is even more alarming to learn that children here in Colorado at the startling ages of 17, 14 and 12 are contributing to these increasing statistics.
